Water Reservoir for Pot Plants

Ready-to-Use System

During transportation and storage on retail shelves, the water supply for pot herbs or other pot plants can be difficult to manage and requires some labor. As a solution to overcome these efforts, the pot substrate can be dipped in a gel, which acts as a long-lasting water reservoir to provide the plant roots with sufficient water. This is based on our hydrocolloidal microcrystalline celluloses (MCG), which are stirred into water and activated to form a gel. The roots can easily penetrate the gel and are supplied with water several days to weeks, depending on the application quantity and plant requirements.

For an average-sized pot, you need about 10-30 g of prepared gel. The substrate is simply dipped into the gel and then placed in a waterproof pot.

Activation of the Gel

1. Mix ARBOCEL® MCG powder in tap water. It can be easily mixed using standard low shear mixing equipment (min. 5 m/s).

2. Mix for at least 1 minute until the liquid becomes milky and viscous.

3. Allow the mixture to stand for a few minutes. The viscosity increases slightly for about an hour, then the mixture is stable.
